A huge benefit of having a spacecraft with a high-resolution camera orbiting the Moon for a long duration is that given enough time, you’ll get to see this:
Is that cool or what? This movie comes courtesy of the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter which has been doing an amazing job of imaging the lunar surface. Onboard LRO is the Wide Angle Camera, which as it’s name implies takes a wide-field image of the Moon beneath. They have a pretty cool writeup of just how they made this magnificent movie.
